The Alappuzha Jain Temple, also known as the Shri Jain Shwetambar Temple, is a significant spiritual and cultural landmark located on Gujarati Street in Alappuzha, Kerala. Built over a century ago by 42 Jain families from Kutch, Gujarat, during the reign of Dewan Raja Kesavadas, it played a vital role in the growth of Jainism in South India. The temple, constructed without iron using Rajasthan stones and white marble, features a unique dome and intricate single-piece marble carvings, blending Jain and local architectural styles. It houses two shrines—one over 100 years old and a newer one built 22 years ago—with the central deity being the 12th Tirthankara, Vasupujya Swami. A blessed Japamala (prayer beads) and statues of other Tirthankaras, including one unearthed in Kuttanad, enhance its spiritual significance. Managed by a trust of the 14 remaining Jain families, the temple is a peaceful retreat, open daily from 5:30 AM–11:30 AM and 5:30 PM–8:30 PM, attracting devotees and tourists for its serene ambiance and architectural grandeur.
